Bow Rehairing Now Offered at a Discount on South Whidbey Courtesy of Island Strings Alum.

Hi There, my name is Alex Bonesteel, I manage the Island Strings website and have remained active in Island strings ever since I was just a book one student. I grew up on the Island and currently live in Bayview. I’ve been playing violin and viola since I was 10 years old, and over years of playing music I’ve realized how important it is to have my bows rehaired regularly. It’s been a long standing inconvenience for me personally that there is no local source for professional bow rehairing and repair services on South Whidbey. Well after years of frustration, I’ve decided to solve this problem.

I’ve negotiated a deeply discounted rate with a professional bow rehairing and repair firm so that local Islanders can have their bows quickly and professionally rehaired and repaired with the utmost quality, value, and convenience possible. Give me a call at 360-632-2635 and I will pick up your bow or bows directly at your home or other location you choose. When your bow is finished I will deliver it directly to your door. The company that provides the bow services is well respected in the industry and guarantees all their work. I personally have been using their services for over 7 years now, and it’s because of this long standing relationship that I’ve been able to negotiate this arrangement. I collect bows on a weekly basis, deliver them for rehair or repair, pick them up, and return them to you. It’s that simple.

Pricing  for Rehair

Standard Violin Bow Rehair: $45.00
Multiple Bow Rehair Discounted Rate: $40.00 per bow

Youth in Arts – April 29th thru May 2nd, 6:30pm at WICA

About the groups for the night of April 29th Youth in Arts

Island Strings, a coalition of string teachers on South Whidbey, will celebrate their 40th anniversary next year in fostering Whidbey‘s string players. They teach Suzuki and other methods to build a good foundation for young students. They also provide numerous year round performance opportunities for students to build confidence in sharing various music from classical to fiddling.  Calyx Community Arts School, sponsored by South Whidbey Tilth, is multilingual arts and nature integrated learning for the whole child (ages 5 to 8).  Island Strings and Calyx students will be performing folk songs from Scotland, France, Germany, etc and Beatles music celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles.

================== ================== ==================

Ceilidh Chids, Whidbey‘s unique youth string ensemble (currently 14 members), provides aspiring string players the opportunity to learn and perform a variety of music in a setting that is “serious but fun.”   Founded in 2010, Ceilidh Chids is directed by Roxallanne Medley,  concert master of Saratoga Orchestra. The ensemble meets weekly and performs at least three concerts each season. They will perform works from their recent St. Patrick’s Day concert:  Bach’s Brandenburg No. 3, Gaelic Air and Dance, Neil Gow’s Lament and the Fiocco “Allegro.”

================= ================== ==================

ICTHUS, a youth vocal group (currently 9 members), founded in 2009, is  directed by Karl Olsen, music director of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the Brothers Four. They have performed at the church services and community events such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance, and their beautiful harmony has always stolen audience’s hearts. Their music at Youth in Arts includes their well-received Baba Yetu, a 2010 Grammy-nominated up-tempo song in Swahili, and Prayer of the Children, a moving piece, reflecting children’s voices in war-torn areas; originally, the situation in the former Yugoslavia.
